Apple Fangirl Queues for iPad 2!

Today Yuko forced me to take her to the city to queue at the Apple shop to buy the iPad 2! We joined the queue at about 3pm and it took us 6 hours to reach the counter!

Yuko has agreed to be nice to me for one month as a consequence of this experience.

Electric Appliance and Dead Fish

This morning we were woken by some bastard banging on our front door. I stumbled out in a daze to see who it was. It was a courier delivering a package…

That’s the problem with letting Yuko loose on the Internet – she buys stuff! The package contained an ‘electric appliance’ – actually a small scanner. The amazing thing was that we got it working within minutes of opening the box! I haven’t yet got used to how easy it is to get stuff working with the Mac!

In the evening we went to the city and had dinner at Kabuki Shoroko – a Japanese restaurant. Yuko ordered the head of a dead fish. When it arrived it was ridiculously huge. She had to send it back to have it divided and half put into a takeaway box…

She also ordered an small dead fish…

Mac Goes Loopy

Today was one of those rare times when I had to re-start my Mac – and after restarting, it freaked out…

In fact it was set to 2001! That’s spooky.

Getting Air

Today Yuko’s Macbook Air finally arrived after some debacles with the delivery process.

Apparently it’s been sitting ┬áin the warehouse in Sydney for nearly two weeks because TNT thought our address was invalid! Actually it’s valid, but we had to call them and tell them before they would even attempt delivery.

Part of the ‘Air’ is Yuko’s Christmas present from me – I paid for the extras. Yuko was very happy indeed…

Of course, she took her new toy to the cafe…

Brisbane

Today our vessel stopped in Brisbane. We disembarked and took a shuttle bus to the city. The trip took 50 minutes!

On the Shuttle Bus

In Brisbane, we walked around looking for food…

We found this cafe and ate food there…

We glanced briefly at the river…

Then Yuko wanted to find an Apple shop so that she could look at the new model Macbook Air! I googled on my phone and found an Apple seller, so we walked there. Fortunately Yuko didn’t buy the device today…

In the Apple (reseller) Shop

Later in the afternoon when we re-boarded the ship, the pool had been drained and was surrounded by that yellow tape they put up at crime scenes…

Meeting the Lost in Space Robot

Today we took Kazuki to the Powerhouse Museum. On the way we stopped at China Town to eat Yum Cha. The restaurant we went to was quite good…

The highlight of our visit to the museum was our encounter with the ‘B9’ Robot (usually known as ‘The Robot’) from ‘Lost in Space‘. Having watched this show religiously as a child, it was very exciting to see the robot up close.

The information card for the robot display…

We also saw some white people in a train. Apparently this is what people looked like 150 years ago…

Firefly Data Centre

Today I saw a kookaburra…

In the afternoon, we set up a data centre at Firefly. It was very embarrassing to have everyone staring at us as if we were doing something strange…

Technology Fails – Moon Grows

I have written before about the problems with the new high-tech electronic parking system at Lane Cove Market Square. In addition to providing information on available spaces, it is intended to be used to enforce the parking time limit of two hours.

But today we observed a uniformed dude in the carpark marking tyres with chalk! I guess this means that the technology has failed yet again…

The Optus technician came yesterday morning. Fortunately the connection was slow when he arrived. He tested the signal at the modem and said that it had a low signal to noise ratio. He then went outside and checked it where it comes into the house. It was bad there too. Then he went out to the street and climbed the pole and check the signal there. It was still bad!

This is good news because it means it’s not our fault. The dude said that he couldn’t do anything but he would put in a request for the network dudes to come and check it out. He said they would come within two days.

Meanwhile, for the rest of the day our connection speed was good – around 1MB/second. But it’s usually like that in the daytime while it’s slow at night, so we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

In the evening I took some more pictures of the Moon. It’s getting bigger each night like a big lump of green cheese…

Finding a Car Tyre

In the morning Yuko player with her iPad at Epitome…

Later in the College, I found a car tyre…

Not only that, but the training schedule on the 1st field has been changed…

Coincidence? I think not!
