Interview with a Frenchman

Today we saw one of the staff at Firefly eating food from another shop. So Yuko interviewed him to get the full story…

Quake Update and Cushion Storage

We got an email from Keiko in Tokyo – the first message from her since the quake. As we suspected, she’s ok.

In the evening, we went to Red Chopstick. In the video below, we use a wind-proof candle for romantic effect, and Yuko shows us where she keeps her cushions…

Messing with Electricity

We went to Eastwood tonight to shop at the Korean Supermarket. Of course we also went to the Korean BBQ restaurant (Surasang) where we experienced fire and beer….

Yesterday I messed with electricity…

Electric Appliance and Dead Fish

This morning we were woken by some bastard banging on our front door. I stumbled out in a daze to see who it was. It was a courier delivering a package…

That’s the problem with letting Yuko loose on the Internet – she buys stuff! The package contained an ‘electric appliance’ – actually a small scanner. The amazing thing was that we got it working within minutes of opening the box! I haven’t yet got used to how easy it is to get stuff working with the Mac!

In the evening we went to the city and had dinner at Kabuki Shoroko – a Japanese restaurant. Yuko ordered the head of a dead fish. When it arrived it was ridiculously huge. She had to send it back to have it divided and half put into a takeaway box…

She also ordered an small dead fish…

We Tried Surasang

Some time ago we decided not to go to the Korean BBQ restaurant (Maroo) any more as their standards had declined. But it has now changed ownership and is called ‘Surasang’ so we decided to give the ‘new’ place a try…

The menu was quite different from that of Maroo, but we were able to order ribs which were pretty good. In fact it was all good except for two things – no chicken on the menu, and the rice sucked. We will probably go back – but I won’t order rice again!

As usual, we took photos with funny hats…

Cleaning the Lizard

This is what a really clean lizard looks like…

Clean Lizard

Meanwhile, we had to go to the Korean supermarket at Eastwood to buy gyoza skins and a few other essential items…

Korean Supermarket

While at Eastwood, we noticed that the Maroo Korean BBQ restaurant is no more! It is now ‘Surasang’. Although Maroo was once one of our favourite restaurants, it had slipped in the last couple of years to the point where we decided not to go there any more. But we might try this new one some time…

Dead Cow on a Hot Rock

Yuko had to go to the city today to pick up documentation relating to her upcoming trip to Japan. So we took the opportunity to have dinner in the city. We met up in the QVB and went to a dandy Japanese restaurant in an arcade off York Street. Yuko photographed the sushi chef…

I ordered wagyu on a hot rock. I thought that a ‘hot rock’ was a diamond not in the posession of its legal owner, but it turned out to be a stone slab at a high temperature. I also didn’t realise that they would actually bring the hot rock to the table!

I had to cook the dead cow myself – on the hot rock. It was very nice indeed!

At the QVB Yuko bought some dandy chocolates as gifts for people she will meet in Japan. However, she also gave me a sample which I ate later at home…

Tree Lighting, Antlers and Pig

Today I put antlers on Suzy…

It was the day of the lighting of the Christmas tree at Lane Cove. We did not attend the ceremony, but instead went to eat Thai food…

Later, we went to look at the lit tree…

We also saw a pig…

The Day of the Fair

At Epitome, a mistake was made with someone’s order, so Harley Davidson gave me the drink which was the result of the mistake – a kiddie’s iced chocolate with a cow on top! It was very exciting indeed…

The other exciting thing was that today was the day of the Lane Cove Fair! This is the one day of the year that we get to walk on the road without being killed…

There were many exciting exhibits – including this one…

In the evening we decided to try the new Thai restaurant which has just opened in the same location as the previous three Thai restaurants which all failed.

The food was reasonable – good enough that we will probably go back. Yuko did complain that one dish was a bit salty and the waiter apologised and said that the chef would be shot at dawn – so I guess that’s a good sign.

Meeting the Taiki Baby

We went to Taiki in the evening and were surprised to see Yukiko (Taiki’s owner) and her baby there. She’s been home with her baby since last November! Yuko and baby said hello…

In the evening I went to the NAG. A dude gave a talk which included a demonstration of the device below – a collimator collimator. Ie: It is for checking whether your collimator is collimated. Unfortunately, my collimator (which I took to the meeting) was too short to use the collimator collimator, so I will have to make my own.
