The Tiny Red Guitar

Today I drove over to Crows Nest to drop some documents in to my financial advisor’s office. So while I was there I decided to have a look in the Big Music shop which is nearby.

I only intended to browse, but I emerged from the shop with a new guitar! It was very exciting indeed…

The Garage Sale

It was the day of the Garage Sale…

I went alone to Mother’s house before 7am to prepare.

I had advertised a 9am start, so it was my intention to go out at about 8.30am to put the signs up at a couple of strategic intersections. But my plan was thwarted when, although I had not even put the main sign out, the first hunter-gatherer arrived at about 8.20am! Once I let him in, a constant stream of customers began. And all this time, Yuko was still at home sleeping!

Yuko arrived at about 9.30am…

I was then able to go and put the signs up on the road while Yuko looked after the shop…

The main purpose of the sale was to dispose of the remaining large items. We succeeded to some degree – selling two sideboards, a desk, a dressing table, the washing machine and the safe The people who bought the safe were unable to move it (that’s the whole point of a safe), so they will come back in the next few days with a bevy of strong-men and heavy equipment.

We didn’t expect to make much money from the sale because were were desperate to get rid of everything and were selling things at ridiculous prices. But despite this, when I counted the takings, it came to $199…

Sign Writing for Dummies

Tomorrow we are holding a garage sale at Mother’s house. So tonight, we went there to put price tags on as many items as possible. While we were there, a couple arrived to buy stuff. They had seen the advertisement I had placed in the North Shore Times and had booked a private advance viewing. They spent $30.

Later, I became a sign-writer…

Opera House Views

Over the weekend, our office underwent some refurbishment which involved removal of some partitions, and the relocation of my team. As a side effect, I can now enjoy spectacular views of the Sydney Opera House…

Actual view from my desk

During the office refurbishment, I had to shut down ‘Noswonky’s Free Money’, so I took the opportunity to do a stocktake which revealed that the current assets are $4.15. Today I re-opened…

As we now have an excess of  cars, I am planning to sell a couple of them, and we already have a potential customer for Mitsy.

But Mitsy has been sitting in the driveway for several months with a flat battery. Although I re-charged it a couple of times, it would just go flat again within a day or two. Today I finally got a new battery installed by a ‘Norma’ dude. After that, Mitsy was restored to full operation.

Cash for Lewd Act

During the early part of January, the drive to work is Traffic Nirvana…

After work I was surprised to find Yuko sitting in the Plaza at Michels.

I gave her $65 for her participation in a lewd act with a dog three years ago. She was very happy indeed…

Google Money

We have achieved parking Utopia in Lane Cove…

Belinda - In Parking Utopia

This evening, while checking my bank accounts, I noticed an unexpected deposit from ‘Arvato Finance’. The transaction description also mentioned Google. I wasn’t expecting such a deposit and there was no other indication of what it might be for…

I can only assume it relates to the email below which I receive back in October…

I did apply, as suggested, but I never got a reply to tell me whether it had been accepted or not. I can now assume that it was.

As Yuko is the co-star of the video, I gave her half the money, However, the dog remains without remuneration.

Noswonky’s Free Money

Today I took Yuko’s tiny Linux machine to work to ask the local Linux expert for advice on getting Internet tethering wotking with the iPhone. He played with the machine (below) but the tethering question was best answered by a google search. It turns out you have to ‘jailbreak’ the iPhone to make it work.

Meanwhile, the above-mentioned Linux dude has been operating a foreign currency exchange for some time now, with a fixed exchange rate of ‘units’. This means, for example, that 1 yen = 1 dollar = 1 Kroner = 1 pound etc. That’s hard to beat…

However, I came up with a competitive business model which should send him out of business…

Later, as he contemplated the total collapse of his business, he cooked some free meat – the second best thing after free money…

Water Man III

Joe the Water Man completed his work today. Yuko and I went to the house to meet him at 6pm. We inspected his work and we were very happy indeed. The carport is now empty (unlike yesterday) and the inside of the house is as clean as it’s ever been…

Joe the Water Man and Yuko in the Kitchen

I then laid out a huge amount of cash on the table for Joe. He pocketed it and decamped…

Macbeth and the Running Ghost

In the afternoon, we went over to Jan’s place, picking up Lady Macbeth on the way. The purpose of the visit was to give them money – which Mother bequeathed them…

Macbeth, Jan and Yuko

Jan gave us muffins and other goodies which we consumed enthusiastically…

Later as we walked the Earth, we saw ghosts, goblins and various monsters roaming the streets making threats against innocent families in their homes. Yuko took the picture below and added a Haiku in Japanese, which I can’t read…

Wallowing in Cash

In the morning, I went to see my solicitor before work and he gave me three cheques representing the final distribution of Mother’s estate. Two of the cheques were for Jan and Lady MacBeth. He also charged me $7000 (plus GST) which he deducted from my cheque.

I then went to the bank where I deposited my cheque and also withdrew a huge amount of cash which I later spread out on the table to gawk at. Unfortunately, I will have to give this cash to Sam (the magnificent gardener) making me poor again.

Today at work we had our monthly team lunch. It was at a fancy restaurant with no ceiling. Our budget did not extend to the point of being able to see the menu, so we just had to eat whatever they gave us – which was a piece of dead animal. It was adequate…
