Computing

In the morning, Yuko abandoned me and I went to Epitome alone while she went to the Vodafone shop. Paradoxically, she returned with a Telstra wireless broadband modem which she will use for her new ‘mini’ computer…

Then it was my turn to buy computer equipment.

After breakfast I went to Harris Technology and bought a Samsung 24 inch monitor. I was hoping that the item would be cheaper because of the post-Christmas sales – but it wasn’t!

I will set it up in my little office once I have cleared a space for it. But when I got home I set it up in the living room to test it. Yuko tried it for herself and was impressed…

Carols for Dandies

Tonight the people of Lane Cove gathered in the plaza to sing carols and be merry. We choose not to mingle with them, but rather to sit on a high balcony at Epitome, looking down upon them. This is carols for dandies.

Yuko’s hat was unnaturally pointy and mine was unnaturally blue…

Despite our reluctance to mingle with the masses, we were still more Christmassy than most…

Avain Transgression

At Epitome, we sat downstairs looking out onto the plaza. A bird came and stood on the cash register and observed the passing masses. I don’t think the staff like birds on the computer equipment, but I was able to get a picture before the errant avian was asked to leave.

Buying Junk

After breakfast, we went to a Garage sale which was walking distance from Epitome. We were the only customers…

Yuko bought a bunch of junk, including some miniature gardening tools. These are intended for a child, but Yuko might also be small enough to use them.

Lucky Day

Epitome

Yuko has placed an order for 10kg of plums which she intends to pickle. The plums have not yet arrived, but she wanted to go to the supplier today to harass and intimidate them in the hope that the shipment will arrive sooner. The supplier is located in the Artarmon Japanese enclave. When we arrived, there was frenetic activity because today was ‘Lucky Day‘ at the Lucky Mart. Yuko went to the plum supplier and took most of my cash. I was left with only $5 in my wallet! The plums are still in transit.

Bread

This my method of buttering toast when the butter is too hard to butter toast…

We discovered where Epitome (at least sometimes) sources its bread. We saw Harley Davidson buying a large amount of bread at Baker’s Delight which is just across the pathway from Epitome…

The Day of the Fair

It’s the day of the fair!

The streets of Lane Cove are closed to traffic and excitement grips the community. One might expect the cafes to be crowded on such a day. However, it seems that the crowds tend to congregate in the street sampling from the sausage sizzles and other food on offer, while leaving the cafes relatively quiet. So we went to Epitome as usual and then strolled around the fair gawking at all manner of bizzarre sights.

Yuko bought a teddy bear but strangely, I don’t seem to have a photo of it. So here’s a photo of her buying a teddy bear at last year’s fair. She may be in a ‘fair bear’ rut.

Epitome

At Epitome we ran into Daniel, who used to work there and has just returned from an extended European trip. He used to look like a professional hospitality worker, but now he looks like The Edge! See comparison below.

Meanwhile, it rained…
