Art And Literature

On the way back from Lane Cove, Yuko spotted a garage sale sign and I agreed to take her there. The result was two enormous pots in the back of the car…

In the afternoon it was time continue distrubuting Mother’s wealth. This time it was Jan’s turn. We went to Jan’s place to meet her and Lady Macbeth – I took Mother along too. According to Mother’s wishes, Jan got her books of plays and poetry…

… and Mother’s vast collection of ‘big’ paintings…

Jan with her new art collection

Jan was very excited to receive these fine art works. Unfortunately, as I mentioned before, the Renoir is only a print, but the rest are originals. The tall thin painting which can be seen next to the Renoir is by none other than Lady Mabeth herself!

Old Money

Another amazing discovery in Mother’s house – an ancient form of currency. I think this could be worth somthing – perhaps as much as $1…

Meanwhile, it was time to take stock of Mother’s vast art collection – which are mostly originals. The note that I found a few days ago specifies that certain of these works (the ‘Big’ ones) are to go to Jan. So I had to pull them down off the walls and dust them off. Unfortunately, the Renior and the Spencer (St Francis and the Birds) are only prints.

Return to the Dome

With the exception of a weekend visit a few weeks ago, our visits to The Dome restaurant have been curtailed for the last couple of months because my week-day evenings have been devoted to visiting Mother in Hospital.

But tonight we returned to the Dome. The art has changed yet again…

Noswonkys at The Dome

They seem to have abolished the ‘Golden Gift’ – perhaps due to the recession. But there were more customers than usual – perhaps due to the looming economic recovery.

Yuko Wins Photo Competition

A few weeks ago we both entered the ‘Lane Cove “Captured” Photography Competition, which was organised by Lane Cove Council. Tonight we attended the awards night in the council building. The theme of the competition was “The Great Outdoors”.

There were about a hundred photographers entered, and there was a picture from each of them on display. The crowed milled, viewing the pitures and sipping wine…

In a humiliating twist of fate, they had hung my entry sideways…

Then the prizes were announced. There were three prizes in the student category, and three in the overall category. After seeing so many excellent pictures on display, we didn’t expect that either of us would win anything. But we were wrong!

And here’s the video…

It was very exciting indeed!

Yuko Accepts First Prize from the Mayor

After the awarding of prizes, Yuko became the centre of attention and she met the three judges who told her why her picture had won. They said it was the picture that best represented the theme of the competition – “The Great Outdoors”.

The winners gathered for photos with the Mayor…

Later, the winning photos were posted on the council’s web site here.

After the awards, we went to the Red Chopstick to relax and celebrate. Yuko said it was the most exciting thing in all her life!

End of Art

The artworks of Vivid Sydney are being dismantled. In the morning I saw some of the pieces strewn about the grass as William Bligh looked on…

At lunch time I went to buy guitar strings. Because I work in the scenic part of town rather than the practical part of town, I had to catch the train to the part of town where useful goods are sold. While waiting for the train, I was advised to stand behind a yellow line, so I did…

Meanwhile, Mother was having a bad day. She was due to have treatment in the afternoon in another part of the hospital – actually in another building. To get there, hospital rules mean that she had to be transported by ambulance, even though I could have taken her myself in about 5 minutes by wheelchair.

She had to wait 1 hour in a wheelchair at the pickup point, and then 30 mins in a bed before being taken by the Ambulance. Then the treatment itself was also moderately arduous. The whole process took nearly four hours and left her exhausted to the point where she was extremely weak and needed an oxygen mask when I visited her in the evening.

Vivid Sydney

I went to visit Mother on her first full day in her now abode. She wanted to go to her house again today to pick up some more items. She also said she needed a torch, but didn’t have a good one at home. So on the way to her house I stopped at the Noswonky residence to pick up a spare torch for her. While there, Yuko came out and said hello…

It’s Vivid Sydney – an event with lights and stuff. Yuko and I went into the city tonight to have a look.

We decided to have dinner at ‘The Dome’ as we haven’t had a chance to go there for a while. As usual the artworks had changed again…

Then we went down to the Rocks and saw some of the lights of Vivid Sydney. The SOH was looking very nice indeed…

The rings of lights surrounding these trees were being powered by passers by who were stopping to pedal stationary bicycles…

The M.C.A. was being lit with constantly changing patterns…

It was a vivid Sydney indeed!

Yuko Accepts Hollywood Offer

A few days ago I was contacted by another TV production company asking to use one of my videos. The last time this happened, nothing happened! I think the show was cancelled before it went to air, and consequently we never got paid!

See: Previous TV Deal

This time it’s Hollywood calling… and it turns out that Hollywood pays significantly more than Channel Ten (who would have thought?) So, being greedy bastards we decided to make a deal.

As the main ‘performer’, Yuko had to sign a release…

That was only one of several pages of legal documents I had to wade through before the deal was sealed. Basically I had to agree to be exploited an infinite number of times, forever, and on any and all media that have ever been invented or will ever be invented. They actually used the word ‘exploit’…

Licence to Exploit

Today I sent the signed documents back to them and uploaded the original footage. Now we just have to wait for the cheque to arrive and we’ll be laughing!

Dropping the Sausage

It’s Vivid Sydney!

What this really means is that there are stange objects being constructed all over the city. I saw one of them today and the construction was being overseen by none other than former N.S.W. Governor and celebrated mutiny victim, William Bligh himself…

Despite sub-optimal weather, we had our usual Friday BBQ at work…

During the festivities, one sausage was dropped. However it was eaten anyway (not by me)…

Mother Spills Juice after Surgery

In the morning I saw a couple of dudes building a white tree…

And in the afternoon I saw this from the office…

Not knowing what time Mother would go to surgery, I tried calling her at about 11am. A nurse answered and told me that Mother had gone to theatre at about 8.30am. So I called the patient information number and they told me she was still in surgery and to call back in an hour. So I called back in an hour and they told me to call back in an hour… and so on. As I had a long meeting in the afternoon, Lady Macbeth took over the calling duties. Then, at 4.15pm while still in a meeting at work, I received the following text from Lady Macbeth…

“Now on ward  10b spoke 2 her, v tired, same patient number x”

Which was surprising because it indicated to me that the surgery was over, and that Mother was already awake and talking! And indeed she was. When I arrived at the hospital she was looking very well indeed. However, she did spill her juice!

Mother Does Laps

Today I saw several limbs protruding from an object in the middle of a public space. Here’s one…

Limb

When Yuko and I arrived at the hospital we found Mother out in the hallway doing laps of the ward. She’s getting quite active now.

Mother rests after a few laps

We retired to the lounge area and watched the news on the TV there.

Mother said that her doctor has no idea what time operation will be, and doesn’t want to talk to me about it! Although Mother said yesterday that she would be ‘nil by mouth’ today, that was not correct. The NBM period starts tonight, and she has been eating well today.

While we were there, my cousin arrived to see Mother. We discussed having a sing-song around the piano, but didn’t…

Note Piano in Background

Surgery is tomorrow.
