Renovations and Beer

We had a look at Mother’s house today. The renovations are progressing quickly.

The bricks have now been covered with a new surface, a new front wall is under construction and some changes are being made to the roof…

Later we drank beer…

Sunrise, Kangaroo and Elephant

Being on the port side (I know what that means now) of the ship, and now that we are heading south down the coast, we are able to see the sunrise from our room. So this morning we got up at about 5.30am to watch it…

The sexy legs competition was held today after being postponed due to bad weather a couple of days ago. In this event, men were required to stut about and humiliate themselves in front of a panel of female judges. Yuko was very excited and took a lot more pictures that I did, but this is the general scene…

I have decided that I want to be an antisocial bastard for the remainder of the cruise, and to that end I asked our head waiter if we could have a table to ourselves at dinner. He obliged, thus freeing us from the boring conversations and long silences we have had to endure in sharing a table with two other couples. I was very happy indeed! And for dinner Yuko ate Kangaroo!

After dinner we drank martinis again…

When we finally returned to our room, we found an elephant on the bed…

Cruising the High Seas

Today was our first full day at sea – on our way to Willis Island and Cairns.

We explored the ship a bit more. We found the theatre where the live shows occur..

Theatre

In the afternoon I went up to deck 10, which is an open air platform on top of the ship, and I walked seven laps for exercise. I was surprised at how the ship’s wake seems to be just a straight line rather than a ‘V’ shape expanding out from the blunt end…

The Wake at the blunt end - seen from deck 10

Afterwards we went to the pool deck and drank beer from huge glasses while Yuko used the WiFi Internet…

Then Yuko went to do her own exercise…

The dress code for dinner varies from night to night. Tonight it was ‘formal’. We also got moved to a table with a view out the window. We were seated with two other couples – one from Kansas and one from Brisbane.

Newcastle

In the morning we woke up in Newcastle – having slept through the docking process. We had breakfast looking out on the city…

I explored the ship a bit and found a second pool…

Then I put my feet up for a while…

The ship began moving at about 5.30pm and we went out on deck to watch. The Novocastrians gave us a rousing sendoff, with much shouting and waving.

After dinner we went to a bar where Yuko blogged and we drank a strawberry flavoured alcoholic concoction…

Boarding Rhapsody of the Seas

It’s time to sail the high seas!

Today we boarded ‘Rhapsody of the Seas’ at the Rocks for the start of our cruise. We have a room with a balcony…

The initial view was of the toaster and SOH – which we’ve seen before, but this is expected to change.

We had lunch at 3pm in the ‘Wind Jammer’ with a view of The Rocks…

The Wind Jammer Cafe

Just before 7pm the ship began to move. It was very exciting indeed. As our first stop is Newcastle, I assumed we would make a left turn after exiting the heads. However, instead we just stopped outside the heads and made a very slow right turn until we were facing south. It took so long that I got bored and went inside. The next time I looked out, a couple of hours later we were moving at a decent speed towards our destination.

Noswonkys on the Promenade Deck

After dinner we went looking for a place to have coffee. We didn’t find one, so instead we drank mango martinis at a bar which had a live band playing cheesy music. We also connected to the ship’s WiFi Internet after overcoming some minor technical difficulties. Yuko was very happy about that.

The Wind Up

Yuko has given me the task of winding the French Clock which has not been wound for some time. This is an arduous responsibility indeed. Today I wound it for the first time and confirmed that it still works…

Later, I was surprised by the name of this wine which I saw on a shelf at Firefly – not that there’s anything wrong with it…

Last Day of Employment (ever?)

It was my last day of employment, and although most of my duties were now being handled by others, I was nevertheless given one final debugging task which I completed just as we were about to go for lunch.

We had a team lunch at a nearby bar where I ate pizza and drank a huge glass of beer (the latter funded by my team leader)…

Drinking

Co-workers eating

I also received a card on which people wrote what they thought of me (better not show that part)…

One of my colleagues volunteered to keep an eye on Noswonky’s Free Money which will continue to operate until either the money is gone or the enterprise is taken over by another (possibly hostile) entity…

Free Money

As I left the building for the last time, I took this picture, which reveals the company name…

I am now free to concentrate on other ‘work’ which may or may not be profitable.

Astro Boy Cocktail

Yuko came to the city to meet me after work today. This time we went to the Sake Restaurant and Bar.

Yuko is finicky about Japanese food, and she doubted the goodness of this place as none of the staff appeared to be Japanese, but she gave a favourable review of the food – even the sushi…

We were early, so the place was not crowded…

It was very exciting to find an “Astro Boy” cocktail on the menu! We didn’t try it, but we did drink some sake.

Round Drums and Rectangular Pizza

At this time of year there is a different ship in port almost every day. Today, it was the Queen Victoria. This is probably the biggest ship which can fit at the terminal…

After work I met Yuko at Firefly. There was a display of Japanese Taiko drumming in the plaza, although the performers were not Japanese. They demonstrated a high level of skill as a large crowd gathered to watch.

Meanwhile, we decided to try Firefly’s pizza. It comes in a rectangular shape.

We also drank beer. It was very nice indeed.

Celebrations Galore

Today it was a double celebration, so we went to Epitome…

We drank strawberry wine…

There was a birthday cake…

And the staff even sang “Happy Birthday”…

Of course, it was also our second anniversary

It was very exciting indeed!
