Today was the Australia Day public holiday. At Epitome, one of the kitchen staff gave us a free dessert - pancakes with bananas.

We went to see the movie American Gangster. As usual, we didn't understand most of the movie, but we got the basic idea. It's the story of an American gangster and an American cop. The gangster does bad stuff, and the cop tries to catch him doing bad stuff.

After the movie, we had dinner at the Red Chopstick (or Red Chopsticks).

Noswonky's Most Exciting Moments - No. 5 - Sumo
The final of the 15 day Grand Sumo Tournament was held tonight. In an embarrassing turn of events for the Japanese people, both the finalists were Mongolian! Despite this, it was a very exciting moment indeed...
And remember, you can watch all of Noswonky's most exciting moments with just one click.

Race
We went over to the city to watch the ferry race from the Opera House. The ferry race was difficult to discern amid the chaos of spectator craft, but we were able to discern that there were some ferries going quite fast. Then we went to qb quay bar (near Customs House) for lunch (see beer photo at top). We used to go there occasionally when I worked in the city.

Dancing
Late in the afternoon, we went to Hornsby where the Japanese dancers were performing at an Australia Day event. Yuko was there to take pictures...
Yuko photographs the dancers |
The dancers performed for about 10 minutes on a stage in the plaza with a good sized audience. They were certainly the best of the several acts we saw performing while we were there.

We went to Taiki for dinner and drank beer...
|
|
In today's video, Yuko drinks large amounts of beer while Mother tells stories of her life as a publican's daughter in Goulburn. In particular, she tells of her series of drinking binges starting at the age of two, when she was found unconscious under the bar...

We decided to eschew Epitome today and go to La Zucca for breakfast. But when we got there, we were shocked to learn that La Zucca has forsaken the breakfasters of Lane Cove! So we went to Epitome instead...
La Zucca - No Breakfast! |
Yuko likes her iPod Touch (which she has named Touchy), except for one thing. Typing on the on-screen keyboard is difficult because of the smallness of the keys compared to the size of her finger. So she would like to be able to operate the touch screen with a stylus, or whatever sharp implement might be available (such as items of cutlery). But it doesn't work. The screen only responds to skin!

Once again, in the aftermath of Christmas, the streets of Riverview are strewn with death. Most people dump the bodies outside their own houses, but some dump them on someone else's private property...

Yuko went to the RTA again. This time she succeeded...
We went to Taiki for dinner. They now have Sapporo beer on tap at $11.00 for a 400ml glass. Yuko drank two (2) such glasses!
|
|
After dinner at Taiki, we staggered along to the plaza to have coffee at Aristocrat (see coffee picture at top). We then witnessed perhaps the worst case of apostrophe abuse ever...

Yuko went to the RTA a couple of days ago to get her name changed on her drivers' licence. However she failed because the marriage certificate she took to show them (the one with our original signatures on it) was not good enough for that purpose.
But today, two more certificates arrived in the mail - the 'official' one and the 'commemorative' one. We now have three certificates, which should be enough anyone.

The Sumo tournament started tonight. We watched the action during dinner and Yuko was very excited...

Yuko has another photography job lined up. She will photograph a Japanese dance group when they perform at Darling Harbour in February. It's the same group that she photographed at the dance festival in Japan last year. Today they were rehearsing on the stage in St. Leonards Park so we went over there so that Yuko could take some preliminary shots.

As a result of the events of January 5th, Yuko is no longer a 'Honke'. So she has been preparing to change her name and signature on a variety of official documents. Tonight she was practising potential new signatures...

We went to the Red Chopstick (or Red Chopsticks depending on which sign you look at). As it's BYO, we took the bottle of wine that Epitome gave us on our wedding day.

Happy Epiphany to all blog readers!
In the morning at Epitome, I saw a dude who looked familiar.
I think I know who he is, but I might be wrong. I wonder if any blog readers recognise him. Here's a closer look...

Mother called to complain that we hadn't given her a piece of my birthday cake to take home. So I took her a box this afternoon.

Today the Noswonkys married in a small private ceremony which was conducted at the Regsitry of BDM. The guest list was limited to Mother, and our friends Keiko and Edwin.

|
After the formalities we emerged onto the balcony and waved to the crowd...
Waving to the crowd |
We went to St. Ignatius' College to take pictures and Keiko and Edwin surprised us with sparkling wine and strawberries. They are very nice indeed!

We then proceeded to Epitome where we celebrated in decadence. There were gifts awaiting us when we arrived.

Today was also my birthday, so there was a cake too...

[ Link to this entry ]Although it is more than three months since I crashed Belinda, it is only now that I have got around to making an insurance claim. Today I took Belinda to Norma (which is what Yuko calls the N.R.M.A) to have her damage assessed.
But before departing, I prepared the damaged wheel for viewing. This resulted in the blackening of my hand...
I had an 8.30am appointment at Norma. A dude took pictures of the damage and will send them to a repairer for a quote.

The carpark that I attempted to pay $2600 to use, now appears to be a free-for-all. It seems that the gate attendant is on holidays and people are parking there willy-nilly and for free!

Meanwhile, cricket is being played in Sydney, and as the Indian team battled to a respectable position throughout the day, I noticed big gatherings of employees of sub-continental appearance around the TVs at work. They were very excited indeed.
Unbridled excitement |
Today we got a card in our mailbox...

I went back to work yesterday. It was a bit quite as a lot of people are still on holidays. I would estimate there were no more than 4000 people there.
This blog has been getting a lot of comment spam recently and I finally decided to take decisive action. I've just done a change which means that comments will not be displayed until they have been approved by me. So if you post a comment it will just show as something like "awaiting approval". I have posted a test comment below to show what it looks like.
This is the first time in a long, long time that I've posted a blog entry on the actual day that it relates to. I have finally caught up!
