Quay

When we went to the qb quay bar earlier this week we also tried taking some night pictures of the Bridge and Opera House, but as we didn't have a tripod, the pictures were not very good.

Yuko wanted to go back tonight and try again. So we decided to go to the qb quay bar again, and then do some photography.

After eating, we made our way over to the Quay. I noticed a lift which went up to the Cahill Expressway, so we went up in it. It turned out to be a very good vantage point.

This is my best picture from the night - taken with my toy camera (as Yuko calls it).

cracking macadamia nuts with hammer? Good luck :) I have a modified mac nut cracker that can do the job with much less effort! Perhaps Yuko wants to buy one!

Bazaar

Today was the day on the Indian Bazaar.

This is an annual event held at St. Ignatius College in support of mimes and other non-speaking entertainers.

Giant Lizards

In the afternoon we were invaded by two (2) huge monster lizards. Unfortunately we were only able to photograph one of them because of the fleeting nature of the second monster's appearance.

It was very scary!

Drinking and Car Crashing

Yuko's cousin Eri is visiting Sydney from Japan and it was time to socialise with her. Yuki Kumagai's band was playing tonight at the Commercial Hotel at Balmain so we decided to take Eri there for a night of jazz and drinking.

Yuko's cousin gave me a present... Japanese dolls...

After we finished drinking, it was time to crash the car.

First we dropped Eri at her flat in Camperdown and then headed back towards the city with the aim of crossing the Harbour Bridge. But being unfamiliar with the route, I missed a critical turn and found myself heading onto the approach to the Anzac Bridge. This freaked me out, and in a moment of distraction disaster struck!

There was a loud bang and the car became airborne for an extended period. When we finally landed, I had a feeling that the car was no longer fully functional.

We had struck the end of a median strip leaving the front tyre flat. However, the clanging sound caused me to suspect that there was more damage than just the flat tyre.

Flat tyre and the median strip the we hit

As we were stopped on the freeway, it was clearly not safe to attempt a tyre change. I called the NRMA and they said that they're not allowed to work on a car on the freeway - presumably because it's not safe. They said they would call the RTA who would send a truck from the harbour bridge to tow us off the freeway. So we waited...

Belinda disabled on the freeway

After about 30 minutes a vehicle with flashing lights parked in our lane some distance behind us. Then a dude walked up the road to where we were parked. I thought this was the dude sent to help us. But it turned out that he was from Sydney Busses, and had just spotted us and decided to check whether we had help coming.

After another 20 minutes another vehicle with flashing lights appeared. This time it was the correct dudes.

One of the RTA dudes from the Harbour Bridge

The parked behind us to divert traffic around our car, and then changed the wheel.

RTA dude changes tyre while I watch

After the dudes changed the tyre, we tried driving a short distance to see if it was ok. We followed the RTA dudes off the freeway and the car seemed ok. So we thanked them for their help and they left us to find our way home.

We got home at about midnight, almost three hours after leaving the pub.

And here's a video...

Horses

When I was but a small child, my great uncle and aunt returned from a trip to some exotic locale and gave me a set of eight (8) tiny horses.

When I moved out of my parents' house many years later, I left those eight horses in Mother's custody.

Now, as the Horse Flu epidemic wreaks havoc in the equine population, I decided to check on the health of my horses.

But when I enquired about them, I was shocked to learn that one animal has, in Mother's words "fallen behind the bookshelf".

I checked the others visually for signs of ill heath, but they seemed adequate.

Blackening

Yuko bought a pair of white shoes. But she actually wanted black shoes, so she painted them. However, the shoelaces are a dead giveaway...

Birthday

It's Yuko's birthday!

We will go for a Birthday dinner in a couple of days as Yuko is now extremely busy sifting through the thousands of photos from the Ballet job.

But today, she at least got a present...

Time to abandon my car and squeeze into a filthy train with thousands of poor people...

Time to be fenced in like a zoo animal...

Time to be oppressed and abused by the police...

Ballet II

Today was the day of the Ballet performed by The Sydney City Ballet School.

Yuko went to the ballet school studio in the morning to shoot portraits of all the danders in costume. Then, in the afternoon I picked Mother up and we went to Shore school for the performance.

Yuko was set up in the control room at the back of the theatre. She stayed there for the duration on the performance while Mother and I sat in the VIP section. In many of the quieter scenes I could head Yuko's camera clicking even though she was a long way back from us.

The performance was very professional and included some very good dancers. Mother enjoyed it enormously and asked if there would be another performance so she could see it again. But alas, not.

The final two dancers in this video are the teachers from the Ballet School.

Ballet

Yuko has been hired for another photography job... Ballet!

It's the Nutcracker, performed by The Sydney City Ballet School which is predominantly Japanese. Many of the dancers are young children and so, naturally the parents want lots of pictures. The catch is that the segment of the performance featuring the tiniest children will only last 2 minutes, and it's vital to get a shot of every child or face the wrath of the parents.

With this in mind, Yuko asked me to help out by shooting with a second camera, particularly during that critical two minutes. I agreed to shoot pictures at the dress rehearsal (which was today), but not at the actual performance tomorrow.

The performance (and today's rehearsal) is at Shore School at North Sydney. We went there at 1pm and were there for several hours.

The theatre at Shore

We ended up sitting in the second row. Yuko put her camera on a tripod while I hand-held. It was a difficult shoot, due the the low light in many scenes, and the fact that ballet dancers have a tendency to move.

Between us, we shot about 4000 pictures during the rehearsal. Some of them may be adequate.

Yuko does some practice shots before the rehearsal starts

Wine for Sushi

In the evening we went to Epitome and drank the wine that Keiko gave me for shooting the video of the sushi night.

I've finally put together a compilation of the highlights of the Sushi night. Yuko can be seen in the background of many of the scenes as she takes pictures...
